Make a poster and place at the school/local youth center

> ASSIGNMENT

Make a poster on "How Do I Recognize Fake News?" and post it at school. The purpose of the poster is to answer the question and tell your peers about these terms and how to protect themselves from them in language they understand.

Terms:

Poster size starts at A3 or larger.

The poster can be created on a computer or hand-drawn.

Idea:

Combine informativeness and creativity.

Important:

- The number of points is not only affected by the assignment, but also by the quality of the assignment.

- The poster should be placed in your school, in a crowded place.

- Remember to coordinate the placement of the poster with your school administration or ask your teacher for help.

Turning in the assignment:

To verify your assignment, take a picture of the poster you have made.

Important:

The picture must show that poster is in your school. Attach the photo file to Google Drive in a folder called Poster. Check in with Slack (Assignments chatroom) that the task has been completed.

> MOST COMMON TYPES OF FALSE MESSAGES

In this checklist, you will find the most common false types of content that reach social networks.

Wrong time/place

The most common misconception is old photos and videos that are added to an actual news event, giving the impression that they are related.

The following content is social network users often distribute unknowingly.

Manipulated content

Pictures and videos that digitally appear less frequently than "wrong time/location" content transformed with Photoshop and other image editing tools. Such content is most often distributed with the aim of deceiving, and its falsehood is more difficult to recognize.

Staged content

Staged content is the least common type of false content because its creation requires the most effort.

Fake news sites

Fake news sites that mimic trusted news sites have proven to be a good tool for the distribution of false content. Their URLs or WHOIS records often contain references to that they are not real media.

The Estonian public broadcaster manages the website err.ee (Russian version address is "rus.err.ee"). At the same time, there is a website "eer.ru" on the web that is visually similar (like many news portals) and whose address (URL) can cause embarrassment for the less attentive web users.
